The top cone lifts up along the heavy-duty nylon cord to access the large cavity capable of holding over 2 pounds of seed. The seed tray has drainage holes to allow water to escape. It is a beautiful bird feeder!

This is my third Gazebo style bird feeder. All have been built similarly except this one has a central plastic column for holding up to two pounds of bird feed. This one is designed to be hung up, but I mounted it on a pole to replace an existing feeder that has deteriorated over the years. These feeders are made of wood which, of course, has been painted, but it will require maintenance – probably after a year of weather exposure. If these feeders are properly maintained, they can last for years. This one is less friendly to the squirrels than my previous feeders which they could crawl right into. Overall, I think this is a nice feeder for the price.
