Although this feeder is not starling "proof", it is definitely starling "resistant". The starlings can hang upside down to feed on it but not for very long so they can't decimate a suet cake like they could on a regular feeder. This feeder is not squirrel proof or resistant so keep that in mind if you've got squirrel problems. We just smear marine grease on the bottom portion of our feeder pole and that keeps them from climbing up to the feeders

This product doesn't really prevent the starlings from being able to eat the suet, it just slows them down. They were eating a suet cake in 1-2 days, but now it lasts about a week. I'm giving this product 4 stars because it does slow them down and because of the entertainment I get from watching the starlings try to get the suet. They now have to work for every bite.
