This works surprisingly well as long as you find an area where it gets at least 6 hours of sun. Under that time and it will slowly freeze. Also, pick a dark colored one as it traps heat better.

I have found this item difficult to open. Our temps here have been below freezing for a number of days and the waterer has frozen. I haven't seen any birds using it. Overall I am disappointed but will persevere with it.
