Product Description:
The Model BM 710 was designed by custom knife makers Bill McHenry and Jason Williams and premiers Benchmade's patented AXIS™ lock which was also designed by Bill and Jason. It looks simple enough, and it is, but it's the end result of a lot of hard work and perseverance by Bill and Jason, over the course of 4 years. The AXIS™ lock is totally ambidextrous and allows for easy one-handed opening and closing of the blade without your fingers ever being in the path of the blade. The design is very intuitive to operate with little or no instruction needed on how the lock functions.

As simple as the lock is, perhaps its biggest selling feature- is its brute strength. In testing, the lock supported a negative load of over 200 pounds without damage. When the lock does finally fail, the liners simply crack over the locking pin, but at no time in Benchmade's testing would the blade have closed on the users hand. The AXIS™ lock features two "Omega" shaped springs that provide outstanding functional redundancy. The springs are lightly stressed and our tests show they should last indefinitely. In the unlikely event that one of the springs does fail, the other will still operate the knife just fine.

Is this the strongest lock made? That's very difficult to say for certain. Benchmade claims that it's certainly more rugged than many of the typical lock-back and liner-locking knives. The double liners are heat-treated 420 stainless steel as is the locking-bar. There is a removable, stainless steel pocket-clip located on the butt end of the knife. This given clip location on the butt end is necessary due to the locking mechanism. If the clip were positioned on the pivot end, the knife would protrude much too far out of your pocket. Benchmade Knives: A Brand You Trust
Benchmade Knives bird house
Benchmade Knife Company, Inc. set-up shop in Clackamas, Oregon in 1990 (originally founded in California in 1988). The initial knives primarily consisted of the Bali-Song® knives, using a combination of outside vendors and inside processing to build finished products. And like most companies, starting out meant scarce money and big plans, using second hand equipment and limited resources.

Soon, a natural born fortitude and an undying passion to make it right and make it Benchmade, prospered into significant growth. As the product line grew so did the in-house capabilities. We began to acquire new machines and technologies including the first of several lasers, making Benchmade the first knife manufacturer to have such equipment in-house. Open minds and positive attitudes would lead to several more industry firsts over the course of the next several years.

This was only the beginning of Benchmade's breaking of new ground in the manufactured knife markets by using non-traditional materials and modern manufacturing methods in not only building knives better but, inevitably building better knives. The Designer Series was first introduced in 1991 with several custom designs being manufactured. By tapping into the custom knife makers' knowledge and combining it with our manufacturing expertise we were more readily able to offer more contemporary knife designs and innovations to the knife users.

Consecutive years of aggressive growth led to the next logical step in 1996 when Benchmade moved into its own 35,000 sq. ft. facility. A contemporary styled building complete with all of the modern equipment and amenities necessary to manufacture what has become recognized as a higher standard of specialty cutlery.

Today, Benchmade Knife Company, Inc. manufactures knives for a loyal and ever growing following of knife users. As we move into the 21st century we are poised for even more exciting opportunities, innovations and ongoing total world-class quality. Here at Benchmade we employ a simple philosophy- "Make it cool, make it solid, make it happen and definitely make it Benchmade."

In one word WOW! This is the best multi-purpose knife I own to date. It never leaves my side. I use it every day. The axis lock is the strongest most positive locking mechanism I've seen, yet very simple. The opening of the awesome D2 tool steel blade is as fast or faster than assisted openers with no fancy parts to wear out. I am a first responder and have used this knife on several emergencies. It glides through seat belts like butter and eviscerates seat cloth, leather, vinyl, denim, air bags dash plastic, weather stripping, etc. The combo edge is very aggressive and the plain edges section is "glass scalpel" sharp right to the tip. Benchmade really hit a home run with this one and your website got it into my hands very quickly! Thanks for carrying a great product that I can trust as a life and death tool!
